Tribeca Film Festival – Fighter

Yahoo was kind enough to provide me with a pass to the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday the 25th. Unfortunately client work got in the way of my ability to jet out of the office and rub elbows with anyone remotely famous at the activities during the day, but I did huff it across town Friday night to see Fighter (www.fighter-filmen.dk), a girl-power movie about an Copenhagen émigré Turkish high-school girl (Aicha) who secretly trains in Kung fu under the nose of her traditional parents, and the overt and covert strains that pursuit puts on her and her family. The Film Festival site has a much more detailed write-up. Suffice to say, it was thoroughly enjoyable. The director, one of the actors, and the actor/choreographer Xian Gao (same guy who trained the folks for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) were in attendance to do the Q&A afterwards. I hope this shows up for distribution somewhere so that I can see the first 20 minutes…I hate missing any parts of a film!
